A shared flock

The flock keeps moving even when nobody is watching. You are seeing a minute of its recent history, about a minute behind.

Only the view below reloads, about once a minute, with a brief pause or jump. It stops reloading after about 20 minutes. Pause opens a still view and stops updates. Reduced motion shows a still image.

How does the flock work?

Each boid steers away from nearby neighbours, aligns with their direction, and moves toward the group's centre of mass. Small, gradual changes of direction keep the flock exploring. Boids look ahead and curve back into the view before reaching its edges.

The server simulates the movement and your browser plays it as an SVG animation. Everyone sees the same simulation.
